NUTRITION CALENDAR OF APRIL MONTH


APRIL 7 - WORLD HEALTH DAY

    Sponsored by World Health Organisation (WHO) and other health organizations, April 7 is observed across the world as World Health Day to raise awareness on global health issues. The day was first observed in 1950.

APRIL 11- NATIONAL SAFE MOTHERHOOD DAY

    April 11 marks National Safe Motherhood Day, observed annually since 2010 to raise awareness about proper healthcare of women, including need for good nutritional facilities to pregnant women and lactating mothers. It also focuses on reducing anaemia among women, institutional delivery for better pre- and post natal health care, etc.

APRIL 11- WORLD PARKINSON'S DISEASE DAY

    Another global event on April 11 every year marks the birthday of Dr J. Parkinson, an English surgeon, best known for his 1817 work, An Essay on the Shaking Palsy. The day is meant to raise awareness on Parkinson’s disease, a progressive nervous system disorder that affects movement, by organizing marathons in several cities across the world.

APRIL 17- WORLD HAEMOPHILIA DAY

    Observed annually on April 17 since 1989 to increase awareness on haemophilia and other genetic bleeding disorders, it seeks to bring under focus millions of people, who suffer from such disorders and do not get access to treatment. The day was first observed by the World Federation of Haemophilia (WFH) to commemoration WFH founder Frank Schnabel’s birthday on April 17.

APRIL 22- WORLD EARTH DAY

    Concerns over environment protection mark the annual event on April 22. The idea was first propagated by a peace activist named John McConnell and the first event was held on March 21, 1970.

APRIL 25- WORLD MALARIA DAY

    The first World Malaria day was established in May 2007 at the 60th session of the World Health Assembly, WHO's decision-making body. The day was established to provide education on the disease and also ways of controlling it. However, the idea first originated from Africa Malaria Day, which was celebrated in 2001.

APRIL 24-30 - WORLD IMMUNIZATION WEEK

    Organised from April 24–30, the week-long event seeks to highlight the importance of vaccination to protect people against all types of diseases. It was first endorsed by the World Health Assembly in May 2012.

APRIL 30 - AYUSHMAN BHARAT DIWAS

    Also referred to as Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), or National Health Protection Scheme, is celebrated across the country on April 30. The program aims at promoting and making medical facilities available and affordable in the remotest parts of the country for the poor. It was originally launched in 2018, under Ayushman Bharat Mission of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
